First Step Housing was started to fight the housing crisis by real estate accountant Devery Robb, and real estate developer Zach Liptak. Their vision is to bring back the starter home and live in a world that allows people to comfortably afford housing like the generations before. Studies show the era of home ownership is slowly fading away. This can be seen over the past 22 years as the median home price has increased nearly 160% with median rents not far behind at about a 99% increase. In that same time period inflation has totaled over 60% all while the median pay has increased just a fraction of those rates. If these increases continue homes will soon be unattainable for most Americans.

We at First Step Housing want to help keep the dream of homeownership alive. To do this we will offer several programs including paying for college students’ room and board, paying for individuals’ rents, and offering down payment assistance. We also will act as real estate owners and developers. This will allow us to offer apartments with attainable rents for the average paid employee and new construction homes in desirable subdivisions with prices starting in the 200K’s. We can not do all of this alone though, we need the support from our amazing donors to help us reach our goal of assisting over 1,000 families and 2,500 individuals by 2030.
